Brigitte Bardot : Biography

Born on September 28, 1934, in Paris, she was the daughter of a wealthy industrialist; while studying ballet, she was approached with the offer to begin modeling, and by 1950 her image had already graced the cover of Elle magazine
Brigitte Bardot married film producer Roger Vadim in 1952. In 1956 she appeared in his movie And God Created Woman and became an international star. Throughout the 1960s, both her public and screen image was that of the blonde and wild -- but innocent -- sex kitten. She retired from films in 1974 and has since been involved with various animal rights causes.
Brigitte Bardot: Career

A ballet student and model, her appearance on the cover of Elle led to her film debut in Jean Boyer's Le Trou Normand (1952, Crazy for Love). Et Dieu créa la femme (1956, And God Created Woman) established her reputation as a sex kitten. Her roles exploited an image of petulant sexuality that was reinforced by a much publicized off-camera love life. Her many screen credits include La Verité (1960, The Truth), Le Mépris (1963, Contempt), Viva Maria (1965), and Si Don Juan était une Femme (1973, If Don Juan Were a Woman). She retired from the screen in 1973 and has devoted herself to campaigning for animal rights. Her book A Cry in the Silence (2003) openly attacked the gay community, immigrants, and jobless people. In 2004, she was convicted of inciting racial hatred, her fourth such offence since 1997.
